Theatre of the Unemployed is an upcoming project developed and delivered by Blue Orange Arts and funded by the European Social Fund in partnership with the Birmingham and Black Country Community Foundation.

Theatre of the Unemployed will consist of drama based workshops that will explore and address issues around employment, unemployment, mental health, implications of being over 50 and exploration of the return to the employment market. These workshops will use drama, writing, devising, improvising, role play, interview techniques and strategy- building games and exercises to facilitate the participants in self examination, self expression and motivation, to effect changes which will lead to better chances of their returning to the employment market. The workshops will provide participants with the opportunity to create, produce and stage an original piece of work to an invited audience of friends, family and general public. They will also experience all aspects/components of a working professional theatre and have the opportunity to gain new skills in stage management, lighting, producing, advertising, costume and set design and acting.

We are now recruiting participants for the project. Participants must be unemployed and living in Birmingham and either over 50 years old or dealing with mental health Issues. Workshops will begin on Tuesday 19th February and run until Thursday 21st March.
